I found swapping out store bought salad dressings one of hardest swaps as I transitioned to a healthier and more nourished lifestyle.  I LOVED having a salad drenched in store bought dressing.  While I don’t believe in demonising foods, processed foods such as salad dressings definitely aren’t a nutrient-dense and nourishing option.

Most store bought salad dressings are highly processed and highly sweetened.  Let’s take a look at one of my favourites (french dressing) so you see why making your own is a great choice.

The ingredients list of this *unnamed* french dressing are: Water, Sunflower Oil (Antioxidant[320]), Sugar, White Vinegar, Food Acids (330, 332), Salt, Garlic (1.5%) (Food Acid [Citric]), Vegetable Gums (407, 410, 415, 440), Parsley (0.2%), Flavour.

Sugar is one of the first three ingredients (listed by quantity) and flavour is a blanket term that could mean ANYTHING.

The following two salad dressing recipes are SO easy and make enough for 1-2 salads (you can of course make big batches to save even more time.

I love the tahini dressing because it tastes a little like that condensed milk dressing that I had growing up.  Did anyone else have this (or do you have no idea what I’m talking about…trust me it was so good, but definitely not nourishing).

The second dressing is a honey mustard dressing and it is DIVINE on salads, especially rice or quinoa based salads.  SO GOOD!

To make the dressings you will need the following equipment:

  • Bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • A little love
