In honour of how inspiring you are to me, I want to share YOUR STORIES with the World (well, the World of Her Nourished).
Today I am honoured to share with you Rachael’s story. Rachael is a Mum, Health Coach and teacher and her story is nothing short of inspiring.
Tell us a little about yourself. Who are you and why is nourishing the body (and mind) important to you?
Hi! My name is Rachael, I am a mum of 2 beautiful boys aged 4 and 1, qualified Health Coach, PDHPE teacher and co-founder of Golden Gut Turmeric Spice Blend!
Holistic health is and always has been so important to me. I strongly believe in the power of our mind body connection and experienced this while competing as an athlete in my younger years. The techniques I learnt during this time in my life such as visualisation, goal setting, manifestation helped me to achieve success back then and I draw on that experience and techniques now in may daily life. Most days can feel like a marathon as a parent. there are so many things that we are juggling and we are just trying to do the best we can. For me to live my best, happiest, most fulfilling life I need to feel good both physically and emotionally so that I have the motivation and confidence to move through the day, getting tasks completed while being present with my kids, husband, students, friends, family, clients. To do that I know I need to fuelling my body with the best nutrition, plenty of water and also treat myself (its usually a raw vegan dessert or raw chocolate), moving my body in a variety of ways on a daily basis usually firth thing in the morning and also taking the time to still my mind either through some swimming, yoga or a quick mediation. When all of those things align I feel the best version of myself.
Nourishing my kids is also super important to me. My first son was born with a milk and soy protein allergy which at the time was super overwhelming and scary. I wanted to educate myself more about nutrition and wellness so I studied health coaching and from that came a wealth of knowledge to support the nutritional, health and wellbeing needs of my entire family. I particularly enjoyed learning about gut health and unintentionally an idea for a brand was born. My husband and I created a product to support digestion and gut health.
What is something you’ve changed/worked on in order to heal your relationship with your body/mind?
Parenthood has taught me to let go of perfection and for lack of a better term, just roll with it. In the past if things didn’t go to plan I would feel anxiety bubbling up within myself which I now know was coming from a place of fear. Every day I practice letting go of perfection because rarely do things ever go to plan and I now know that that is completely fine. I heard a great quote from Rachael Finch while listening to a podcast where she said that “The imperfect moments are perfect” and it is so true, if we are striving for perfection and getting upset because it doesn’t happen then we are missing all the little random moments that make life what it is. knowing this has really helped to calm my mind and in turn has positively impacted on my overall health.
Share with us one of your favourite nourishing meals
I love a good nourish bowl. My favourite things to add in are; cooked quinoa, baked sweet potato, fermented vegetables, sautéed greens such as broccolini or wilted baby spinach topped off with a drizzle of whipped tahini
If you could say one thing to your younger self, what would you say?
Stop comparing yourself to others and embrace your uniqueness. Also to just chill, enjoy life’s little moments, have confidence within yourself that everything will work out fine in the future.
And finally, your favourite inspirational quote or message?
I love ‘No act of kindness is ever wasted’ by Aesop and I also love Deepak Chopra and his nuggets of wisdom particularly this one ‘The way you think, the way you behave, the way you eat can influence your life by 30-50 years’.
You can check out Rachael’s Instagram and Turmeric blends HERE (which are seriously DELISH!).
To make a Turmeric latte I simply:
- Add together 1/4 cup almond milk and a splash of boiling water then use a milk frother from IKEA to froth the milk.
- Add 1 tsp Turmeric blend + 1/2 tsp stevia (optional) and fill mug with boiling water.
- Stir and sip.
Thank you Rachael for sharing your story (and your yummy Turmeric blend!).
