How to: Morning Oats

My all time favourite breakfast is oats.  There is something about waking up to a warm and creamy breakfast and if I don’t get my oats fix I feel off all day.  I have perfected how I like to have my oats, so to save you all time and effort, here goes:

In a bowl I measure out exactly 40grams of organic rolled or quick oats.  I have to measure them out as otherwise I would unnecessarily eat a GIANT bowl.  We have kitchen scales that are super easy to use – if you put the bowl you are going to use on the scales before turning them on then it configures to 0.0grams with the bowl.

I then add a teaspoon of chia seeds, some raw cacao powder, and when in season 1/2 a grated zuchinni (its currently not in season).

I cover the oats with filtered water and put the bowl in the microwave for exactly 2 minutes.  I have found that this time makes perfect oats (for the way I like them).  You can use the stove top if you prefer your oats cooked that way – microwaving is just so much quicker when you have limited time to make breakfast, and there really is no excuse to skip breakfast!  Another option is to make the bowl as above the night before and let your oats soak in the fridge over night (perfect if you prefer a cold breakfast).

Once the oats are cooked I add a splash of rice milk or almond milk, a teaspoon of stevia, 1/2 to 1 scoop of Sunwarrior protein powder in vanilla flavour, and a handful of frozen blueberries.  You could use any fruit – I prefer frozen blueberries as they cool the oats down to prevent me from burning my mouth from devouring the oats too quickly.

Mix well and you are good to go!
