So something a little different for this week’s What I ate Wednesday as I realllllllly wanted to share with you how I use my Fitbit!

If you haven’t heard of the Fitbit then take note, it is one must-have accessory.  In a nutshell, it is a wristband that tracks your steps, exercise, sleep, calories burnt, and can then be linked to apps like My Fitness Pal (one of my all time favourite apps).

If you are interested to know how much you actually do each day, how well you sleep (haha, not advisable for mummies…trust me…it’s just plain depressing), and want a easy-to-use weight management tool then this is it!  I love that I can tap the band during the day to see how close I am to achieving my daily step goal (and whether I need to run some laps around the house).  I was also pleasantly surprised to see that on the days I vacuum and mop I burn some serious calories!  (if you need motivation to do your housework then this is it!).

The calories burnt include your basal metabolic rate (the calories you burn simply by living), and anything on top of that is exercise (whether that be planned or incidental).  You can see that I actually exercised yesterday as well, which is why my steps and calories burned are so high.

The best thing about Fitbit is that you can use it as motivation if you are trying to lose weight, get fit, or increase your steps per day.  I Love Love Love that it can be linked to My Fitness Pal (an app on smart phones) which I have been using (well…when I remember) for well over a year.

Below are some snap shots from my My Fitness Pal entries yesterday.  It also reminds me (quite clearly) that I snack wayyyyy too much, but also shows how I compensate for this by having smaller calorie meals.

My Fitness Pal also has a scanner function, so you can scan your favourite foods and quickly see the nutritional value.  It’s an awesome tool to use when trying to pick between foods at the supermarket or cafes/restaurants as you can quickly search each item and compare the calories.

If you are starting to make your Christmas wish list then the Fitbit is certainly one to add to it 🙂

    I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
    Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid
    option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed ..

    1. Oh you are so sweet, thank you! I found google and youtube my best assets (and still do) as someone who knew NOTHING about blogging. It’s all trial and error but my biggest piece of advice would be to start. Everything just falls into place from there and you learn as you go. I love my host (Bluehost) because I can do whatever I want with my site, but it’s down to personal preference and what you want out of your blog. I hope that helps a little, good luck! xx
