Summer is well and truly on it’s way on the Gold Coast and to mark the start of the warmer weather I love throwing together a simple Summer fruit salad.  This salad is the perfect breakfast, snack or dessert during the warmer months.  AND, eating in season has so many health benefits as well as being kinder on your wallet.

Did you know that some foods do not grow all year round?  I know it might seem surprising, shocking even.  We find strawberries and blueberries and melons during every season in our supermarkets.  Granted, in Countries like Australia we are blessed with weather that allows some fruit and vegetables to be grown for longer seasons but most fresh food has down time.  It is during this time that you will often find imported or EXPENSIVE versions of your favourite fruits.

You will also notice that fruits in particular when eaten out of season just don’t taste the same.  They are often less sweet and less appealing.  I’m all for eating in season so the minute the actual seasonal Summer fruits hit the shelf I love to make a healthy and simple Summer fruit salad to celebrate.


All you need are your favourite fruits, oranges and passionfruit (if in season) and you are ready to go.  Don’t forget to check the dirty dozen for exposure to pesticides before you decide which fruits you might want to buy organic and which you can get away with buying conventional.

Simple Summer fruit salad

Ingredients

  • Fresh Summer fruits, chopped into small cubes
  • 1 fresh orange, juiced
  • The pulp from one passionfruit

Instructions

  1. Arrange in a bowl the chopped fruits;
  2. Drizzle with orange juice and passionfruit pulp and toss gently.
