Vegan and Paleo healthy chocolate creme eggs

I think these vegan and paleo healthy chocolate creme eggs are quite possibly the best to ever come out of my kitchen.  No exaggeration.

The traditional chocolate creme eggs, while tempting, are so sickly sweet (and not in a good way).  I don’t know about you but I always end up feeling so sick after eating a creme egg.  Feeling sick doesn’t make Easter fun for anyone.

These vegan and paleo healthy chocolate creme eggs are SO good and not at all sickly.  I’d know, I ate a few!  But that is totally okay because BALANCE is so so important

My suggestion is to still approach these healthy chocolate creme eggs as an indulgent treat and be mindful of portion sizes, but ENJOY knowing you are eating healthy chocolate creme eggs that are filled with nourishing ingredients.

I made these in mini cupcake cups because I didn’t have any egg moulds but if you have egg moulds I’d LOVE to see how they turn out.  Tag me on Instagram (@her.nourished) to show me!

Toddler approved

Of course, one of the most important aspects of any of my recipes is that it is toddler approved.  My son LOVED these healthy chocolate creme eggs.

Easy-to-find supermarket ingredients

If you’ve been following Her Nourished for a while you’ll know I’m all about super accessible whole food ingredients.  No one wants to spend their week trying to find ingredients for recipes, and I personally feel so let down when I open an exciting recipe only to see ingredients I have to go out of my way to find (and that are usually expensive).  I’ve listed below a few alternatives to almond butter which is really the only expensive ingredient used in these these healthy chocolate creme eggs.

Almond butter – Substitute with peanut butter, tahini (will alter flavour) or leave out if sensitive to nuts.

Vegan and Paleo healthy chocolate creme eggs
Prep time
Total time
A deliciously indulgent but totally healthy chocolate creme egg recipe that's suitable for those following a vegan and paleo lifestyle.
Serves: 8
  • For the chocolate:
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp cacao powder
  • ¼ cup dairy free chocolate (such as Sweet Williams or Loving Earth chocolate)
  • For the white filling:
  • ⅓ cup coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp rice malt syrup
  • 1 tbsp coconut flour/finely desiccated coconut
  • For the yellow filling:
  • ⅓ cup coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp rice malt syrup
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  1. Prepare 8 small moulds (I used silicone moulds) on a freezer-safe surface.
  2. Start by making the white and yellow fillings.
  3. For the white filling, add the coconut milk, coconut oil and rice malt syrup to a small pot and place over medium heat, stirring regularly. Once the mixture is simmering, add the finely desiccated coconut and stir until the mixture thickens.
  4. Pour the filling into a shallow freezer-safe container and place into the freezer.
  5. For the yellow filling, add all ingredients to the small pot used for the white filling and repeat the above steps (place over medium heat, stir regularly until mixture thickens and then place into a shallow freezer-safe dish and place into the freezer.
  6. To make the chocolate, place the coconut oil, cacao powder and dairy free chocolate into a pot and place the pot over low heat until the chocolate has melted. Stir to combine and then set aside.
  7. Spoon approximately 1 tsp chocolate into the base of the mould. Remove the two containers of filling from the freezer and layer approximately 1 tsp white filling followed by 1 tsp of yellow filling placed in the centre only, followed by 1-2 tsp white filling. Finish with a final layer of chocolate (approximately 1-2 tsp). If making these in egg moulds, half the mixture across two moulds and then seal together with melted chocolate once set.
  8. Place the moulds into the freezer to set (approximately 30 minutes) and store in the freezer. Serve from the freezer or fridge.

SOOO GOOD, but I’ll let you be the judge.  Tell me what you think!
