If you are here from Instagram I already have your attention. I don’t need to say HEALTHY, DAIRY FREE Easter Chocolate Recipe – right?
Let me share with you the first in my little Easter mini-series of delicious, healthy and kid-approved Easter recipes. An incredibly simple Easter chocolate recipe that is perfect for little and big kids alike.
I’ve shared a few times why I’m not a huge fan of some traditional chocolate at Easter – or any time really (you can read about the dark side of chocolate here) and I also have a dairy free child making Easter slightly more challenging. You can watch my vlog on how I created a fun dairy free Easter last year for my littlest dairy-free love.
These dairy free Easter chocolates are SO DELICIOUS, incredibly easy to make, dairy free (obviously) and also made using healthy whole food ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. You don’t even need a blender!
They are best stored in the freezer and are not ideal for gifting. However, the recipe (before freezing) is perfect for gifting as a delicious Easter sauce! If you are a friend of mine then heads up – you’ll probably be receiving this at Easter.
I’ve shared two variations for these dairy free Easter chocolates for those of you like me with a child who is more sensitive to cacao. The cacao-free option is a beautiful caramel sauce/chocolate and just as delicious as the cacao version.
HER NOURISHED RECIPE TIPS
- A blender is not essential, but if you live in a cool place or your making bigger batches you may find it helpful for a smoother sauce.
- Once made, the chocolates MUST be stored in the freezer until ready to be eaten so they are not ideal for gifting. The recipe makes the most delicious sauces though, so simply bottle them up in cute little bottles like these ones from Kmart and gift them to your friends and family at Easter.
- Make sure you stir your tahini within the jar well before you take the measurement. Good quality tahini will often separate, with the oil rising to the top of the jar.
- I suggest using silicone moulds (like these ones) for the chocolates so that they are easy to remove when frozen.
- If you don’t have freezer moulds simple freeze in a slice tin lined with baking paper and using a hot, wet knife slice into squares.
- If your child is sensitive to cacao like my daughter you can swap to equal amounts of carob powder or leave this out completely for a caramel chocolate option.
These Easter chocolates are
- Dairy free
- Gluten free
- Refined sugar free
- Date free
- Nut free (although they do contain sesame)
- Soy free
- ⅓ cup tahini (hulled)
- 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- ¼ tsp pure alcohol free vanilla extract (optional)
- 2 tbsp cacao powder
- Add the tahini, coconut oil, pure maple syrup and vanilla extract to a bowl and whisk until smooth. Alternatively, add the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Halve the mixture and set one aside (caramel sauce/caramel chocolates).
- To the remaining mixture, add the cacao powder and whisk/blend until combined.
- Pour the mixture from each bowl into separate ice cube/chocolate moulds and place on a flat surface in the freezer to set. Allow approximately 2 hours for the chocolates to set.
- These chocolates must be stored in the freezer and eaten chilled.
- Alternatively, pour each bowl of mixture into a glass jar and keep as caramel and chocolate sauces (perfect for gifting).
